We received this letter from our US office, a story of how Lightforce lights and Nightforce scopes have helped keep military personnel alive.  A nice read.

Terry H., a retired soldier, tells how Lightforce helped keep him and his crew plus their whole scout element alive. In his own words, he tells us how Lightforce made a difference:

“My unit got into country October 2008, when everything was more about Convoy Security missions and less on Combat operations. We took over damaged vehicles outfitted with old military spot lights staged around our gun trucks. I went to an EOD unit who had the latest and greatest lights for their operations and they gave me 5 used Lightforce Spots…some had the cool covers on them, some were stripped down. We had a 3 gun truck scout section for our platoon and as the section lead, I gave the four Lightforce spots to the other trucks, who mounted them on the front light bar. I had one hastily rigged on my side of the gun truck for the upcoming mission to Camp Speicher. My lead scout truck missed an IED and the Second saw something and radioed back to halt the convoy. We took a cover roll to search for initiating wires or anything regarding a device. The second guntruck confirmed two 155 howitzer rounds stacked.

We had a 40 vehicle convoy that night and your Lightforce lights made the difference between seeing the device and getting them disposed of properly, or us missing the device and have it blow up and hurt one of my friends or the contractors rolling along with us.

We hadn’t bought (or didn't know) the capabilities of the lights, but after that incident we made sure if we can find more of those lights they would be all over our trucks. We didn't take flashy pictures of the Light systems but let me tell you they truly are a life saver.

It’s great that Lightforce is affiliated with Nightforce, which is another great and reliable product I have used in theater. I want to sincerely thank you and your staff who build these great products to help us maintain our safety and security to come home to our families and friends."

Chloe's Weekend!

One of our more colourful sponsors, Chloe F, sent us these pictures from the weekend that was ... and what a weekend! Friday night she went to the Adam Brand / Beccy Cole concert at the Hahndorf Inn, and was asked to park her ute out the back so that Adam could get a better look at  it after seeing it briefly at the beginning of the night. He loved it, signed it and sat in it, and so did Travis Colins, another county singer! Then she made the last minute decision to head out to a ute show on the Saturday and she took out second in the BnS ute category and also the coveted Ute of the Show! Good work Chloe, we are proud to see you out there winning and flying your Lightforce high!

We had one of our dealers in South America send us pictures from the Desafio 4x4.  The Desafio 4x4 is the biggest 4WD tournament in Costa Rica and one of their distributors, BORO 4x4, was a competitor at the event.  BORO 4x4 came in first place in all categories!!! Leo from South America sent us a direct quote from them saying "This is a demonstration that our lights can withstand the toughest conditions in water and mud".  Great feedback from a team battling very different terrain from our own in Australia!

We had a gentleman by the name of Scott McDonald write to us last week, letting us know he has a pair of our Lightforce spotlights mounted on his ute, which we think are awesome lights and he is very happy with our product. He also sent us some pictures of his large scale 1/5 RC racing car, which he has done up as a "Lightforce" vehicle! We love it! To give you an idea of the size of the car, it is 95cm long, 53cm wide, 38cm high, weighs 15kg and is powered by a 29cc (Whipper Snipper) 2 stroke petrol engine.

We love seeing stuff like this at Lightforce, we definitely have some creative fans!

With a five-poster bulbar, mudflaps and aerials now adorning the replica car the Jesus Ute will undoubtedly be one of the most unique vehicles on display at the iconic Deni Ute Muster event, held on the 28th and 29th of September.

The Jesus Racing Team attended the event last year and thought the event was a great way to connect with the community so this year have decided to have some fun and dress the Jesus  ute more ‘appropriately’. With the support of Lightforce this is the Jesus Ute like you’ve never seen her before! After Deni, the Jesus Ute is making her way to the Bathurst 1000.

Our Sales and Marketing Operations Manager, Sean O'Donald, is on a business trip visiting the UK and South Africa.  He has taken his lovely partner of 20 years, Anne, with him to enjoy some annual leave while he is over there.  We had a slight "miscommunication" between our Aussie office and our stockist in the UK, RUAG, with our cheeky Sales and Marketing Director "accidently" telling RUAG that Sean and Anne were on their HONEYMOON!!! Sean arrived to the office to be confronted by Just Married banners, cake and celebrations! And they were upgraded to the bridal suite at the hotel also! Sometimes wires get crossed when you are dealing with people in other countries ... !!

Lightforce were a joint sponsor with their customer, 4x4 Shop Russia for a big expedition in the North of Russia, which took place in February - one of the coldest times in that part of the world! Only 4x4 Shop in Russia would attempt a major 4Wd expedition in a TRACTOR!!! Slava sent us some pictures of the expedition and it does look a bit crazy (those crazy Russians!).  He also sent us a picture of the Dodge which looks pretty cool if we do say so!

TSA Motorsports at it again!

TSA are preparing for their next race on May the 5th, but took the time to write us a little update on their last race:

A mere 60 of 176 race teams crossed the finish line in race two of the Mint 400, on Saturday in Primm, NV. Proving once again the Mint is one of the toughest races around.
In addition to the 7200 class, which included TSA Motorsports and 35 other teams, the second race featured teams from Class 1000 (26), Class 1200 (4), Class 1400 and 1500 (85), Class 5000 (10), Class 6100 (1), and Class 8000 (15).
TSA Motorsports got off the line at 1:33 pm after two weeks of mechanical difficulties, which included two blown transmissions and several trips between Las Vegas, and Southern California, leading up to race day.
Each lap of the race consisted of 92 miles, and three pit stops (main, one and two). TSA made a strong start and arrived in 10th place 74 miles in, as they arrived at Pit Two.
TSA left Pit Two in 14th place, and finished their first lap and began their second lap with relative ease.
As they worked their way into and out of the Main Pit, TSA remained strong and quickly made their way back into 9th place after passing several other teams.
At race mile 116, the truck lost ignition spark and wouldn’t start. After several attempts to make repairs, the team called it a day, citing an electrical problem as the possible culprit.
10 of 35 race trucks in the 7200 class reached the finish line with Eduardo Laguna taking first place. TSA finished 19th overall.

Lightforce are proud to be part of the Monte Carlo Rally Retrace to be held in 2013.  The Rally Retrace takes original Holden cars that participated in the Rallies gone by and 'races' them again! Lightforce lights are replacing the original Lucas headlamps on this car, ready for the rally.  Should be a great event, can't wait to see more!

Our Lightforce team stopped for a "quick" and "light" breakfast before heading their seperate ways, one of them home to us with a full IWA report and the other off to visit our European customers.  We are sure they will have enough sustenance to keep them going!! Temperatures are below zero at night, but that is better than our Lightforce partners in Sweden who are battling 1 metre of snow! Not too fussed though, they say the snow clears "when the sun will shine and it will melt" - so practical!!!

We had another update from FAT4BE after they attended the Berwick Ute Show.  He's got the 6ft canes on FAT4BE and can now fly the LightFORCE flag which is great! At the Berwick ute show his ute picked up the Best 4X4 and Best Nissan awards, there were a few 4X4s on show so this is a great result! When he recieved the award someone yelled out "bet it never goes offroad" - which just gives Chad more motivation to keep making mods and wining - that's what we like to see!

We recently ran a consumer research survey, where we invited people to tell us their thoughts about our products and advertising.  The survey was meant for Australian only consumers, but some international respondents slipped through and we tried to honour postage overseas where the addresses were filled in with enough detail.  One made it all the way to Sweden, and then the lucky recipient contacted our distributor in Sweden to say how happy he was! We are glad the hat made it Kent, enjoy!!

There is a competition side to drag racing, and a street side.  Renee's car is custom built for competition drag racing and Renee takes it seriously when she gets out there! Her best time for the day for the 1/8th mile (660 feet) was 5.64 sec @ 119mph - go Renee!

Travelling Across Oz ... Or The World!!

Over the Christmas and New Year break our Sales and Marketing Director John Fairbrother took an extra week or so off and made the trek all the way up to Cairns and back .. by car.  That's 2970km one way, nearly a 6,000 round trip! That's the same distance it would take to drive from London to Greece and back, taking in a few countries along the way! Australia is indeed a huge country with many less densely populated areas in the middle ... as John found out the hard way.  On his trip home his engine failed close to the town of Charleville and John was left stranded on the side of the road.  Thankfully the locals took him in and fed him at the local pub and he was able to catch a plane home after he had sorted everything out.  His car however was not so lucky ... just goes to show, you need to be prepared when crossing this massive land of ours!

One of our sponsors, TSA Motorsports, have been locked in a points battle with Russ Ramsey to win the class 7200 series over in the US.  TSA Motorsports rolled into Laughlan, NV. on Thursday December 8th, knowing full well that to have any chance at winning the 2011 championship, everything had to be left on the table during the race. The plan was to go all out from the start of the race, and not let up under any circumstances.
Day one of the race: TSA Motorsports started fourth, lining up in front of Ramsey. As the green flag dropped, team driver Dallas Luttrell put the gas pedal to the floor and went for it. One half mile into the race everything went bad. At a speed of 65 to 70 mph, the front of the truck hit hard and dove into the ground causing the truck to roll, end over end three times. By the time the truck stopped, the truck was facing oncoming traffic in the middle of the track. Fortunately, Dallas and co-driver Bill Billington were not hurt and were able to exit the race truck and move the truck off the track. While both were unharmed physically, they were nonetheless disappointed that the race was over.
We wish better luck to TSA next year and in their next races, but are pretty glad to see our lights survived the crash!!

Australian 4WD enthusiasts run the risk of being stranded on the open road as a result of inferior driving lights being sold online.  Lightforce has discovered that imposters have been modifying genuine Lightforce halogen lights with non-genuine upgrade kits and selling them online as HID lights.

The dodgy products are advertised at well below cost price.  We urge online bargain-hunters not to be fooled by these cheap products on the market.

The modified lights available online contain cheap, poor-quality Chinese-made ballasts and bulbs that aren’t made for Lightforce lights.  These modifications are virtually undetectable when viewing online photographs posted by the sellers, but using them will seriously compromise the quality, performance, output, longevity and reliability of your driving lights – not to mention your safety.

The only way to ensure you are getting genuine Lightforce lights is to visit a registered Lightforce dealer.  As the saying goes … you get what you pay for – make sure you buy Australian to outlast the Australian conditions!

We'd like to introduce our Lightforce team in Borneo. They went out of their way to paint up all the vehicles in Lightforce colours and don't they look great?! Most of the cars are daily drivers into the palm tree plantations - the roads along here are very tough off road conditions.
They also enter the vehicles into country wide 4WD competitions and love to 4WD in their spare time - great exposure for Lightforce!!

Even better news is the Borneo Safari 2011 was held on the weekend just gone, and of the 180 entrants roughly 50% of them had Lightforce lights on their vehicles! Loving this news on the international playing field, hope to hear more!

Look at these two pics taken in the Kgalagadi Park using a Blitz 240 to illuminate them! The lions were about 70-80 meters away and the Blitz 240 was used plus a flash. The leopard was over 120 meters away and just the Blitz 240 was used to illuminate the cat as the flash would never reach that far!

Deni always brings out the best stories! As part of our Deni experience this year we gave away two sets of Lightforce HID lights to lucky members of the crowd.  This you guy was the lucky winner of one pair.  What does it take to be a Lightforce winner?

Congrats to Desmond Burns, our R&D Director, and his beautiful bride Kushari who were married last Wednesday.  The couple tied the knot on the beautiful Whitehaven beach in the Whitsunday Islands. Des arrived in a seaplane and Kushari by helicopter later. They were married by father Bill on the shoreline, and left together in the chopper going back to Hamilton Island.  They are now off to Europe this Thursday to see family and have another honeymoon in Paris - we wish them a fantastic time and every happiness!

240mm 50W HID conquers the African Plains!

We just received this email from one of our avid Lightforce fans, based in Indonesia and a big fan of off-road driving around the world.  He tried out our new 240mm 50W HIDs on an African Safari and gave us a rapt review:

"Dear John,
Just back from a trip to South Africa, through Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe and I wanted to give you some feedback as the 240 50 watt HIDs got a working over. They were constantly 'drowned' as water levels in the Okavango Delta (Botswana) and the game parks we went to in the Caprivi in Namibia where at a high and a lot of roads were rivers or deep pools with water constantly over the bonnet of my 50mm lifted Defender. In other areas there was thick powdered dust, corrugations etc etc and the lights never missed a beat. In fact, although this might sound strange, I have never ever, ever, seen such effective lights in my life. Flick to high beam and the world lights up. And then, after about 5 seconds ...  Woooooosh, the world explodes like a million magnesium flares! My friend traveling behind me (for obvious reasons) at night said it was like being behind the starship Galactica. It still puts a smile on my face thinking about the light output even though I am back at work in Indonesia.
The roads in Africa can be appalling and traveling a night with this, the constant threat of animals jumping out infront of you, and wayward heavily laden transport trucks means traveling is not something you normally consider. However, with the 240s I always felt in control, eye strain was negligent, and the notorious trucker blindings that are handed out on broken potholed roads were non existent. No matter how many spots these guys had they had no answer to the 240s and had to concede defeat and dim their lights.
On one day, we left Hwange game park in North Western Zimbabwe, drove into Botswana and on to parts of one of the worst roads I have driven between Freetown and Gaborone in Botswana, and on arriving in Gaborone 14 hrs later, in the deep of night, I could have actually driven further. Testament to how easy the night driving was made with the 240s.
Thanks once again for an outstanding product, making night driving not only a pleasure, but a a hell of a lot safer and putting a smile on my face whenever I used them.

Our QLD Regional Sales Manager's Car Gets The Lightforce Treatment

Our QLD Regional Sales Manager, Ryan Hiskins, has given his car the Lightforce treatment!  It looks great with canopy window prints and some car decals along the sides and bonnet.  The finishing touch is the three 50W HID XGTs on the front of the vehicle.  50W HID has recently become standard across our driving light range, bringing with it a price adjustment in both the 35W HID and 50W HID options.  HID is no longer a niche buy, but something for the mainstream market!

Polar Ring Expedition

The Lightforce sponsored Polar Ring Expedition has come to an end.  Unfortunately the expedition was not as much of a success as the organisers had hoped for, but all crew have returned safely after a hectic trip.  They only managed to complete 470kms of the trek before they had to turn around and head home due to some technical problems, but lots of fun was still had.  These Russians are crazy, often leaving their vehicles in just some wellingtons, track pants and an overcoat to head out and investigate some interesting thing in the snow!!

In broken English Vyacheslav described how happy they were with our lights on the expedition, saying our yellow filters really helped them see their way through the snow.  Just imagine, Lightforce lights, manufactured in little old Adelaide, travelling the world to the North Pole!

Next up for the adventurous Russians is an expedition deep into the Ural Mountains using only ATVs on roads that have never been travelled by a vehicle before - we'll keep you updated on this one as well and wish them well in their preparations!

Lightforce Survives Mongolia and River Crossing ... the car does not!

Lightforce lights were chosen to light the way on the 'Road of Bones' expedition across Asia, Russia and into Switzerland, run by the Nicolumbus team http://www.nicolumbus.ch/.  'Road of Bones' is one of the hardest to reach and harshest terrains to travel in all of the world.
Unfortunately the team never made it to the treacherous 'Road of Bones' because the engine was flooded during a river crossing!  The lights survived of course, and had survived the already freezing conditions through China during the rest of the trip. 
Roman Giger of the Nicolumbus team had this to say about our lights ... "By the way, the lights are fantastic.  It is incredible.  Going offroad in the night?  No problems if you have the Aussie beams!"

Congratulations Nostalgic Coach Restorations

Nostalgic Coach Restorations are a voluntary non-profit organisation working to preserve a part of Australia’s transport and tourism history. Most recently, they  have taken on the task of restoring an old historic Ansett MC9 Motor Coach that was located in the Sydney Windsor area some five years ago. They have now fully refurbished the coach back to its original condition so that people can once again see and experience the standards of travel of a bygone era.

"Just got back from the mint 400 race in Las Vegas.  We had five class 11's in our class start.  We started out in front, and by race mile 100 we were 40 minutes ahead of the next car.  We ended up finishing  first and were the only car in class to finish.  This is our third consecutive first place finish at this race and not many have done that.  I owe it to Lightforce, because having your lights meant I was able to see the course after dark and finished at 11:45 pm"

We can finally show you some pictures of the Lightforcre lights being filmed on the set of the Australian drama Sea Patrol.  They look right at home!  Darran from Southern Cross 4WD Tours, whose vehicles were used on the show with our lights, was good enough to send us in the pictures.  He also told us a story about a recent trip out 4WDing where he lost his clutch pedal six days into the tour. He had to 4WD 50kms to the nearest gravel road and then make his way back to the Gold Coast without a clutch!  Sounds hectic, but at least your tour customers can be sure they are in good hands if you're the driver Darran!

Lightforce tours Le Jog 2011

These pictures came across our desk last week and are a great example of Lightforce being used around the world in all conditions, on all types of cars.  The pictures are of a car competing in Le Jog 2011 - a reliability and touring trial running across the UK.  The trial starts in Land's End, down in the deep South West of England, and crosses the country to John O'Groats in the Scottish Highlands.

This driver obviously wanted reliability and performance to ensure he made it from one end to the other .. and the best way was with Lightforce.

Lisa Kelly, star of the show 'Ice Road Truckers' has joined forces with Lightforce!  You would know Lisa from the hit TV show 'Ice Road Truckers' where she drives on some of the most dangerous roads in the world.  Lightforce are now teaming up with Lisa to help make sure the way is well lit on her trips from now on.  Lisa grew up in Alaska, in North America and has always had a love of the outdoors and fun, adrenaline pumping activities - eventually leading her to the tough life of trucking.

We were recently sent some pictures from our friends in Russia of an event which runs South-East of Moscow.  The event runs for 20kms around an old range for military tanks and as you can see, it looks pretty cold! 
Lightforce lights were the 1st and 2nd prizes for the off-road group, and the 1st prize for the ATV section.

Lightforce to star in Sea Patrol!

Lightforce would like to say a big congratulations to Southern Cross 4WD Tours, whose vehicles have been chosen to appear in three episodes of Sea Patrol, to air in 2011.  The episodes have just been filmed, on  the 3rd, 9th and 10th of December. 
 
The vehicles chosen for the episodes were the Oka and the Patrol, which can be seen in the pictures.  Lightforce can’t wait for the episodes to air and we’ll keep you all informed.

One US customer wrote in to tell us just how happy he was with his new lights.  One a rare sunny day in Western Oregon (they have already have several feet of snow this Winter season, and plenty of rain as well) he managed to get his Dodge 4X4 pickup cleaned and ready for a picture with its new Strikers.  He asked us to excuse the dirty Landrover as he only had enough sunshine to clean one car, but we think it looks great anyway – Lightforce cars are often a little dirty right?!

100th Renmark and Districts Show

Celebrating 100 years this October, the Renmark and Districts show held a competition to try and get 100 utes to the showground as part of their annual ute competition.  There were categories such as best female ute, best commercial ute, best restored ute and even a prize for the most feral ute!  Our long time sponsor Paul Zerbe won the most accessoried ute prize – great work Paul.

   a.  Jobs prior to Lightforce?
   Worked in management for Mcdonalds, Boston Market, and Uno Chicago Bar & Grill, Business Development Manager for Orion Food Systems, Vice President of Sales for Command Center Staffing, Director of Sales for Bullet Tools
   b.  Have you had a chance to move around with your jobs (geographically)?
   I have not moved around but have spent ALOT of time travelling for work.
   c.  Any other interesting information about yourself.
   I have two amazing children, Taylor and Austin, an amazing girlfriend Jessica, and love to workout, pretend that I can actually golf, camp, and spend as much time outdoors as I can.  I will be running by first marathon in Seattle in November.
2. Ever been to Australia prior to this trip?
   I have never been to Australia.
3. First impression of Australia?
   I was surprised at how friendly everyone was. It seemed everyone was so outgoing and willing to help.
4. Favourite thing about Australia?
   My favourite things about Australia would definitely be the people.  My second favourite thing was the beer.  I enjoyed the Pure Blonde, the Coopers Pale Ale, and the James Squire.
5. Most surprising/bizarre thing about Australia (e.g. we eat the animals on our coat of arms)?
   I could not believe that you eat kangaroos.  I tried the ‘roo’ and it tasted great but was too chewy-kind of like a steak flavoured piece of bubble gum.
6. How did you enjoy your Aussie 4WD experience (at Saunders Gorge)?
   I can honestly say that I had the time of my life out at Saunders Gorge.  It was an experience that I will never forget no matter how long I live.  The scenery was breathtaking and I hope I will have an opportunity to do it again.
7. Where is the best place in your area or in USA to go 4WDing / offroad?
   I think the absolute best would be where I live in Idaho.  There are abundant mountains to climb and streams to cross.  It really and truly is God’s country.
8. What do you want to see the next time you come to Australia?
   I would like to spend some time exploring more of the outback.  I would also love to visit and spend some time looking around Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth.
9. What are you most excited about working at Lightforce?
   The thing that excites me most about Lightforce is the opportunity to reintroduce the best, the brightest, and most durable line of performance lighting into the North American marketplace.  We have a tremendous product, the best team on the planet to support it, and a customer base that puts significant value on a premium product.  I cannot wait to get things started!

These lights have done approximately 334,000 KM on 3 separate vehicles, have hit 1 kangaroo, 3 ducks, 1 wedge tailed eagle and a multitude of birds and are still looking as good as new and have not even required a new bulb....

Genesis Passes the Simpson Desert Test

We had a fabulous trip across the desert a few weeks ago with the 4WD Action team. The Pajero went like a dream and we can't wait to get back out there again. 

The Genesis HID lights attracted a lot of interest from all participants, one commented that it was like being followed by the Sydney Football Stadium lights. I found them to be an exceptional light to drive behind, the clarity and brightness is outstanding and the mounts did not move over the heavy corrugations on some of the tracks out there.

Thought I would share this with you as you may want to use this as a testimonial  for your Lightforce products.

I recently purchased two brand new Lightforce 240 Blitz driving lights for a road trip from Darwin to Broome. First, the difference they made at night on the open road was amazing. But when I was North of Broome, at a very unlikely time and unlikely place  I somehow managed to hit a cow while I was travelling at approx 60km/hr. Here is the photo of the outcome of this collision. As you will see, damage was only obtained on one light. Both lights impacted on the cow, however the one on the right actually hit the cow full on.

I am amazed at how little damage was obtained, as I would have expected the entire fitting to snap, the reflector to shatter and would never have thought that I would have used it to get back home to Darwin as my standard headlights were obliterated from the force of the accident. Without the Lightforce 240 driving lights I would have had to wait  in Broome for new headlights!

One big reason I chose Lightforce products was due to its reputation in toughness, and that was certainly proved and I will certainly share this with those in the 4X4 community.

It is with great pleasure, that we announce the appointment of our Sales & Marketing Director, John Fairbrother.

With a background in international sales and marketing (Business Degree and Diploma in Marketing), John was born in England & has worked in many countries for a variety of companies but mainly in the packaging B2B sector. Most recent positions held were with Detpak and Carl Zeiss Vision.

John and his family (wife Sue and daughter Nuala) migrated to Australia in 2006 and now live in Stirling, in the Adelaide Hills. John and his family are embracing Australia and all it has to offer, with one of their favourite family past times - the great Aussie Family Camping Holiday! Although they have already seen many places, they are rapidly gaining an appreciation of how big Australia is and the diversity it has to offer, when John heard about the opportunity to join Lightforce, he jumped at the offer to mix his passions.

"Hit a roo last night at 120kph, the upper body came in direct contact with the lights, both lights were hit with such force that they rolled back so far they dented the bonnet and yet survived, only one globe blew, lucky I had a spare in the glove box cause as you can see I lost all 4 headlights so all that got me the remaining 600kms was my driving lights, cant think off any other light that would have survived that !!!! "
